Vietnamese zha chai peng

Just had vietnamese zha chai peng at one of the local coffeeshops for lunch.
1 meat + 1 toufu + 1 veg + 1 bowl of soup = VND 30,000
That's less than SGD 2. Cheap rite?
One thing I noticed about zha chai peng stalls here. U know how in SG, pple automatically form a line (i.e. QUEUE) and when it's their turn, u point to the stall fella (who would already be holding a plate of rice) which dishes u want, rite? Here in vietnam, there might be a line, but pple can hop into the line at any point and any time. When I say "hop", I actually mean "push". And besides pointing to the dishes, pple are also screaming out random vietnamese words. I can only assume that they're calling out the names of the dishes they want.
"FISH!!!"
"TOUFU!!!"
"VEGE!!!"
"NO, NOT THAT VEGE, THE OTHER VEGE!!!"


I have concluded that vietnamese zha chai peng stalls are exactly like the traffic here.
No order at all.


After lunch, Ngoc brought me to look for a mobile phone shop. The HTC USB cable that the baba boy bought me back in SG was broken, so I was in search of a new cable. Otherwise cannot charge my phone.
When we reached the supposed mobile phone shop, it was closed. I thot it was either closed for the entire day, or closed for good. But Ngoc said in Vietnam, pple like to take afternoon naps. So the shop owner probably closed the shop to take a nap, and would reopen at 2pm.
WTH !!!
Can lidat wan meh??!!
In SG, lunch hour is like the golden period for shops to make money. (Ok, maybe ranking after "weekends" and "after office hours".) Just check out the lunch crowd in the CBD! Anyone would be an idiot to close their shop during lunch hour in SG!


PS: Feel like changing my blog layout, except that I'm still in love with that cartoon pic at the side. And also quite sick of blogspot's ineptness to perform certain supposedly simple functions, feel like switching to wordpress.


PPS: Internet connection's damn slow today. Maybe the internet also realises that it's friday, and so it shouldn't be working so hard ..... -_-

Crab spring rolls + Vietnamese coffee + freezing weather

This will be a short post, just some updates from Hanoi.


Had crab spring rolls for dinner last night.

Ooohhh......ultra delicious man... freshly fried, crispy, fragrant...... lost for words....

Totally miss it now already.

Of cos I took some pics, will upload them when I can get my phone to sync with the computer.


Tried my first sip of Vietnamese coffee at breakfast this morning.

And it was just as everyone else had said.... Excellent!

I am so going shopping this weekend..... already on the list: coffee, apricots, fried lotus seeds...


One of the coldest mornings in Hanoi since I arrived.... was raining and temp dipped as low as 14 degree C.
Thank goodness 2 cycles in wintry Australia have "trained" me to brave the cold weather....
The gals from HCM were less so..... 2-3 jackets, gloves, scarves, etc.... while I only had on my normal air-con temp sweater over the usual sleeveless blouse...haha, not to gloat, but I'm sure the baba boy would be proud of me
=P
